Guest rob W Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 just had to get the rear springs on mine changed for the MOT and it was recomended not to change just the broken one but to change them as a pair and get both changed as the spring rates may be differant and cause the car to handle poorly.190 quid for changing both rear springs rob Quote
broom broom Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006  they never told me that oh i only bought one what do i do now  Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 You could buy another one,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Do one and don't worry. EDIT: Checked ELSAWIN and the replacment spring must be the correct one for the model. You can change just one, the same is true for the dampers. Edited April 28, 2006 by Masked Marauder Quote
broom broom Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 I bought the one for my model i'll replace one then do the other one later on although the car only failed on 3 things for the MOT the mechanic has said one of the rear shockers needs attention and the back box of the exhaust i plan to do them as i go along the other shockers is just summit else to add to the list :( And has anyone replaced the coil springs before?? is it an easy job?? i have the compressors for the spring so is it a job for the partner who has a not too bad knowledge of cars or is it back to the rip off merchants with it?? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 It is fairly straight forward as long as you make sure the compressors can't slip. Give the top nuts a good soak with WD40 for as long as possible before you start though. Quote
johnb80 Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 You can change just one, the same is true for the dampers. Thats a definite no no. Springs don't wear, they simply break as their life ends, damper/shock absorbers do wear and changing one is definately NOT recommended. Regards - JB Quote

Regards - JB Whilst I agree with what you say, and indeed I personally would not change them unless I did them both, ELSAWIN quite clearly says this is OK. Quote
Justice Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 The is a guy in Trowbridge who sells on Ebay and had lots of front spring sets and was selling them for under a tenner a pair. Quote
broom broom Posted April 29, 2006 Author Report Posted April 29, 2006 under a tenner a pair  where can i fond this guy??? Quote
Justice Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 After a lot of searching I found him, his Ebay id is draco2700 if you go into advance search then search by seller you could ask him if he has any left,I must admit it has been a while since I have seen him selling the springs but he was listing a new set every 4 or 5 days and sometimes they were only selling for Quote
NikpV Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Ebay id is draco2700 I bought my first ebay item from him - new gal child seat for Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Im starting to think we need a separate section for any thing to do with ebay!! any one agree??? :D Quote
NikpV Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Oops Hijacked thread :( :D Ps talking of Ebay have you come across those parking sensors yet  MO4 Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I havent actually..turned this place upside down then i asked hubby where they were and he thinks he threw em away!!!!!!! gonna keep looking though just in case..got one cupboard left to empty..been avoiding it as its piled high with anything and everything!! :D :( Quote
greg_68 Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I think the following sections would be good maybe all lumped into one bit a section of items for sale by members [car related or not] one for links to parts suppliers when peeps come across them [like MM's cv joint place] a place to put links to Ebay items that seem cheap and may be of interest to others[there's a spare wheel carrier on there for instance, someone is bound to want one]. Not everyone has access or is proficient in Ebay. a wanted list that you can add to so anyone going to a scrappy for instance could maybe look out for other members. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 very good idea there greg.if i dont get round to it today..im sure neil or MM will..as ive just bought a huge ,heavy, made the car work with a heavy load chest of drawers!!I could feel it in the pull of the car...going uphill was not funny as i couldnt see out the back window and i was going at 40mph even though it was 60 as it is a dangerous road that has sharp bends one after the other..last thing i would have needed was the thing smashing the rear window!!last time i went on that road i went too wide and ended up on the other side of the road with a car heading towards me..nice drop on the edge of the road aswell!!! Any way..im rambling again.. Brilliant idea.......will be done...(i think) Quote
